VIII All-India Conference of Russian Compatriots Held in Chennai

On October 1, 2019, the VIII All-Indian Conference of Russian Compatriots was held at the RCSC, Chennai, in which representatives of the Russian Diaspora from seven regions of India took part. The event was organized by the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India, the Consulate General in Chennai and the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo.

The conference was opened by the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai Mr. Oleg Avdeev. In his address to compatriots, he noted the significance of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which will be celebrated on a large scale in 2020 and expressed the hope that compatriots living in India will actively participate in the organization of events dedicated to this significant date.

Welcoming speeches to the participants were made by Mr. Mikhail Ktitorov, First secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India, Mr. Gennadii Rogalev, Director of the RCSC in Chennai, Ms. Ludmila Filippova, Chief Coordinator (Cultural and Information), RCSC in New Delhi and Mr. Ratish Nair, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation, Director of the RCSC in Trivandrum, who proposed to hold the next All-India Conference of Compatriots in Trivandrum.

It was followed by the reports on the activities done and the presentations by the President of the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots (IARS) Ms. Elena Burman (New Delhi) and IARS representatives from different cities of India: Ms. Tatiana Sysoeva (Chennai, Tamil Nadu),Ms.Tatiana Barysheva (Mumbai, Maharastra), Ms. Irina Malysheva (Culcutta, West Bengal), representative of “Goan Times newspaper” Ms. Anastasia Gritsay (State Goa) and  Ms. Olga Frolova (Hyderabad, Andra Pradesh).

During the conference, textbooks and study guides were given for the Russian language courses at the RCSC. Books were provided through the Federal Targeted Program for the Development of Education, and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India.

Based on the results of the conference, a resolution was adopted in which special attention was paid to the preparation of events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
