BRICS Short Films Festival was held at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture on March 12-13. The festival was organized together with the Indo-Russian Cinemas in cooperation with the Russian TV Chanel “TV BRICS”.
Overall 30 short films from India, Brazil, Russia, South Africa and China were presented at the festival. Two Russian films “Khaita Dance” by Alexander Popov and “Three Minutes Younger” by Marina Zimina were part of this festival.
Within the framework of the festival, the winners were announced in 14 categories, including best Tamil film, best Tamil actor and actress, BRICS TV prize for best foreign-language film, best script, best director etc. The winner of the festival was a young and talented director Jammer Basha with the film 'Vagupparai'. It is a dramatic film about life in an Indian village where the only free school is closed. At the centre of the story is a 4th grader who does not give up and wants to continue to study at any cost.
Apart from the main jury, around 9000 cinema audience took part in the process of determining the winners of the festival. They voted online for their favourite film through the special mobile application “Play Button”. The film screening was followed by the award ceremony, where the guests of honour were Mr. Gennadii Rogalev, Director of the RCSC, Chennai, Filmmaker Sri Ganesh; Famous actress Kalaimamani Sathyapriya and others.
The winner of the festival, Jammer Basha became a contender for participation in the “New Generation program” of Rossotrudnichestvo.
