From February 18 to 24, The Russian Centre of Science and Culture held the 5th Chennai International Short Film Festival. The festival was organized by the Chennai Academy of Motion Picture in association with the Chennai representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in India. The inauguration program was attended by Ms. Yulia Antonova, Vice Consul of the Consulate General of Russia in South India, Mr. S. Kannan, President of Academy, Mr. Vignesh Chinnadurai, Festival Director, Mr. K. Mohan, Film Director, Actor Vivek Prasanna, Actress Rohini, as well as representatives of film industry, public organizations, creative intellectuals and film lovers from Chennai.
The festival featured 127 short films shot by different directors and in different genres - from psychological drama to animation from 19 countries: India, Germany, Austria, Russia, Spain, Us, England, China, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, Brazil, Belgium, France, New Zealand, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands and Turkey. All the Movies were subtitled in English.
The films were divided into three categories – Animation, Documentary and Fiction. Directors Pushkar and Gayatri, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Maddone Ashwin were the juries for the festival. 11 short films by young Russian filmmakers were presented: Jana Nedzvetskaya, Alina Fadeeva, Andrey Bulatov, Ilya Aksenov and others. Indian audiences could see strong, philosophical and humorous short films about life and love.
The event was covered in the local press and on television.
