A function dedicated to Children’s Day was held at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture on November 15. The event was organized together with Probus Club. Dr. K. V. S. Gopalakrishnan, IPS (Retd), Secretary of P. S. Educational Society, Mr. R. T. Namasivayam, President of Probus Club, teachers and students from various schools of Chennai participated in the program.
The birthday of the first prime minister of independent India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, is celebrated on November 14, as a national holiday – Children’s Day all over India. Children’s contests and competitions were held on this day, and included prizes and gifts for children. All proceeds from charitable evenings & social occasions went towards orphanages and schools.
In the RCSC, a fancy dress competition was organized for small children where they could dress up like their favourite heroes. And the students from Sree Nirthyapriya Temple of Arts gave a dance performance.
Dr. K.V. S. Gopalakrishnan in his speech, addressed to the parents and teachers, requested them to help children and to ensure that they grow up as responsible citizens of their country, who have self-esteem, and who are confident in their abilities and capabilities.
Mr. M. Gorbatov, Director of the RCSC, greeted all on Children’s Day, wished everyone peace and kindness. He also thanked the club members for supporting talented children and the assistance provided to the students from low-income families. He stressed that Probus club is doing very important work, involving India’s younger generation in the gamut of the friendly ties between Russia and India.
The program ended with the prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the various competitions organized for the Children’s Day.
Ms. Kaamaakshee Aathreya from Chettinad Vidyashram received the Award of Excellence and Ms. T. Rekha from Chennai Girls Hr. Sec. School, received the All-Rounder and Best students for Social Work Award.
