January 25, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Chennai commemorated the 160th birth anniversary of the famous Russian writer Anton Chekhov with a literary program. The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Archana M. Sardana, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of English, Anna Adarsh College for Women.
The literary evening gathered club members and students of Russian language and admirers of Chekhov. Mr. Gennadii Rogalev, Director of the RCSC welcomed the gathering and spoke about the influence of Chekhov on Russian and world literature and his popularity in India.
Dr. Archana Sardana spoke about the commonalities between Chekhov’s writing and the works of two Indian authors R.K. Narayan and Su. Samuthiram.
The club members made a presentation about the life and creative journey of the writer and his famous works.
The literary meeting was interesting and informative and ended with a lively discussion.
