On June 1, The Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Chennai celebrated the Day of Russian language by hosting a poetry evening, dedicated to the 220th Birth Anniversary of the Great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. The event was organized by the Russian language club, functioning on the basis of the Russian language courses at the RCSC.
The library of the RCSC turned into a literary salon, which was filled with the admirers of Alexander Pushkin. Guests and participants of the program were the students of the Russian language courses and club members.
Ms. Valentina Maiorova, Head of the Russian language courses, wished everybody on the upcoming Russian Language Day and told about how Pushkin is perceived by Russians, how they first time get acquainted with his name in their childhood and then it accompanies them throughout all life, at each age revealing Pushkin in its own way.
Students of the Russian language prepared and conducted a presentation about the works and interesting facts from the life of the great poet.
The presentation was followed by the recitation of Pushkin’s poems in Russian, English and Korean languages. A poem dedicated to Alexander Pushkin in South Indian language Telugu, aroused a particular interest among guests.
Undoubtedly, the literary festival turned out interesting and informative, it is not only expanded the list of Pushkin's works which was familiar among students, but also touched the hearts of all the listeners. The program went on a warm environment and ended with a friendly tea party.
