The action “Immortal Regiment” held for the first time in Chennai

On May 9 the RCSC in Chennai was held ceremonial events dedicated to the Victory Day.

The action “Immortal Regiment” was organised for the first time in Chennai. The Russian compatriots living in Chennai presented the photos of their relatives (the participants of the Great Patriotic War) in the exhibition hall of the RCSC. All guests of the festival were told about the history and significance of the action, video clips about how the action takes place in different cities of Russia and abroad were shown.

The video clips of the Victory parade 2019 at the Red Square were screened and the war year’s songs were sounded.

 Everyone could taste the dishes of the Russian soldier field kitchen.

The guests of the RCSC highly appreciated the St. George’s Ribbon action. Indian citizens received informational leaflets telling about the significance of the action.

An important event of the festive program was the inauguration of the Great Patriotic War movie festival “Great Victory for long Peace”, organized by the RCSC with the support of the Russian Cinema Concern “Mosfilm” and the RCSC partners Madras film Society and Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation. The inauguration of the festival began with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Second World War. The song “Victory Day” symbolizing a holiday in Russia was sounded. A real gift for the guests was the performance of war year’s songs and dances by the children of Russian compatriots.

The congratulatory speeches at the inauguration were given by Mr.Oleg Avdeev, Consul- General of Russia in Chennai, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Khaleel, Regional Officer of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Mr. Gem Veeramani, President of Indo Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (IRCCI), Dr. Sivathanu Pillai, Ex-CEO of Defense Research and Development Organization, Former Vice-president of IRCCI and Mr. Gennadii Rogalev, Director of the RCSC in Chennai.

The festival was launched with the movie “White Tiger” directed by Karen Shakhnazarov. Two more movies “A road to Berlin” and “The Star” will be shown within the frames of the festival.

Festive events dedicated to the Victory Day gathered an impressive audience and received lots of admiration and compliments.
