Chennai participated in a literacy test “Total Dictation-2018”

A literacy test “Total Dictation” was organized by the Rosstotrudnichestvo representative office in Chennai at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture on April 14.

“Total dictation” is an international event to popularize the Russian language. It was first held in 2004 as a cheerful, carefree student’s action in the Humanities Faculty of the Novosibirsk State University. Over 14 years, “Total Dictation” as an action of one university has turned into an event on an international scale. Anyone can take part in this literary test, regardless of gender, age, nationality, level of education and knowledge of Russian.

According to the organizers, the total dictation - 2018 was attended by about 1000 localities around the world.

Chennai participated in this test for the 3rd time. For the participants of the dictation in the RCSC, it was a unique chance to try their hand at writing a voluntary dictation and to check their literacy. The dictation was taken not only by Russians, but also by citizens of the CIS countries.

This year the author of the dictation text was a famous Russian writer Guzel Yakhina. In Chennai, the dictation was taken from the second part of her Novel “Zuleikha opens her eyes” – Day one day in the life of a teacher of literature – Jacob Ivanovich Bach.

Before the dictation, the audience got acquainted with the presentation, listened to the video address of the organizers and the author of the text. Then Ms. Valentina Maiorova, head of the Russian language courses cheered everyone, wished them all the best for the test and dictated the text.
