A program dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the uprising of the prisoners from “Sobibor” held at the RCSC in Chennai

October 14, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture was held a screening of the film “Sobibor”, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the uprising of the prisoners from the Nazi death camps “Sobibor”.

The welcoming address to the audience was given by Mr. Oleg Avdeev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in South India and Mr. Gennadii Rogalev, Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture. The chief guests of the event were Mr. E. Thangaraj, General Secretary of Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation and Mr. Subhash Chandran, General Secretary of Madras Film Society.

Consul General of the Russian Federation Mr. Oleg Avdeev, spoke about the history of the heroic uprising of prisoners, which formed the basis plot for the film. He underlined that we must take lesson from the past mistakes, not to repeat them in future”.

Also an exhibition of photos and archival documents “Sobibor” was presented for the participants of the program. It was dedicated to the history of the uprising which was organized and led by a Red Army Lieutenant, Alexander Pechersky.

The Russian film “Sobibor” was selected by Russia for “Oscar” was watched by more than 200 students of leading universities in Chennai, members of film clubs and film academy, representatives of public, admirers of Russian cinema and Russian compatriots.

At the end of the film, audience stood up and gave a big round of applause.
