Russia Day celebrated in Chennai

The state holiday - Russia Day was celebrated in hotel ‘Taj Coromandel” on June 8. It is a holiday of freedom, civil peace and the good consent of all people on the basis of law and justice. This celebration is a symbol of national unity and joint responsibility for the present and the future of the country.

In honor of this day, the Consulate General of Russia in South India organized a gala reception. Diplomats, creative intellectuals, representatives of social,political and business circles of Chennai and compatriots were invited for the festive evening.

The National anthems of Russia and India were played. 

In his felicitation speech, Mr. S. L. Kotov, Consul General of the Russia in South India underlined that the year 2018 is rich in significant events and told the guests about the main events. He said that very soon, on June 14, the FIFA World Cup 2018 will begin at the stadium "Luzhniki" in Moscow. Russia is hosting the World Cup for the first time. This grand event will be held in 11 regions of Russia, where thousands of fans from different countries will rush, total 12 stadiums will be used for 62 official matches and 32 national teams will participate in the World Championship. 

The Russian Centre of Science and Culture has prepared a photo exhibition dedicated to the championship. The exhibition presented photographs of 12 stadiums and their host cities where the world football matches will take place. 

After the official part, the guests were invited to dinner, where they continued to communicate with each other in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
