On December 8, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture hosted an evening of Indian-Russian friendship, dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the RCSC.
Friends and partners of the RCSC gathered in a superbly decorated hall. The celebration was attended by Mr. F. A. Rozovsky, Head of the mission Rossotrudnichestvo in India, Mr. P.K. Ashok Babu, Head of Branch Secretariat, Chennai, Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, Mr. V.M. Lakshminarayanan, Chairman of Indo Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (IRCCI), Mr. R. Veeramani, President of IRCCI, Mr. P.Thangappan, Secretary-General of IRCCI, Mr. C. Mahendran, assistant secretary of communist party in India, Mr. C. Ravi Chandra, Director of Study Abroad, as well as prominent public representatives of state Tamil Nadu, representatives of schools, universities, mass media, Russian diplomats and compatriots.
The program started with the national anthems of Russia and India. The official part of the program was opened by Mr. F. Rozovsky, Head of mission Rossotrudnichestvo in India.
Mr. Rozovsky headed the Centre from 1989 to 1991. Today he warmly recalls his work at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, which that time was called the House of Soviet Science and Culture. “The Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Chennai has been functioning effectively for the last 45 years, implementing the essential mission of developing and strengthening Russian-Indian relations. The work of the Centre is carried out in all important areas, such as education, science, Russian language and the promotion of economic cooperation”, he said.
He warmly congratulated the RCSC on the anniversary and wished to continue the work creatively and dynamically for the benefit of Russian-Indian relations.
Other speakers also said many good words in support and in favor of the Center’s activities, on the importance of its work directed in development of public diplomacy,
the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties, and the strengthening of the feelings of mutual respect and trust between the peoples of India and Russia. It was stressed that the Russian Cultural Centre is a real centre of friendship.
All partners with whom the Chennai Representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo has actively interacted in India, were awarded with mementos in honor of the 45thanniversary of the RCSC “For the Contribution in Work of the RCSC and for Strengthening of Friendship between the Peoples of Russia and India”. Among the awardees were: public organizations, schools, universities, mass media, clubs and associations at the RCSC and teachers of Russian language.
Special mementos were awarded to “Study Abroad” educational consultancy and to the Indo-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
The Cultural Program was carried out by the students of the dance schools at the RCSC: The School of Ballet and Contemporary dance headed by Ms. Ann Toner and The Academy of Modern Danse headed by Mr. Gowtham and Mrs. Kokila. The cultural program ended with the performances of musicians and dancers who performed traditional music from the states Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Then guests enjoyed a festive buffet dinner and continued their communication. The evening passed in a warm, friendly atmosphere.
