Russia Day celebrated in Chennai

Russia Day is a celebration of national unity, a symbol of joint responsibility for the present and the future of the country was celebrated in Chennai. On June 9 diplomats, creative intellectuals, representatives of social, political and business circles of Chennai and compatriots were invited to “Taj Coromandel” Hotel for a gala reception organized by the Russian Consulate General in South India.

The hymns of Russia and India were heard.

In his felicitation speech Mr. S. L. Kotov, Consul General of the Russia in South India underlined that the year 2017 is rich in significant events and told the guests about the main events. This year Russia and India are celebrating 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. To date both countries are connected on several vectors of cooperation: trade partnership, political dialogue, interaction within international structures, cross-cultural exchange and many other things. In June of this year, the International Economic Forum was held in St. Petersburg. The chief guest of the forum was the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi, who timed his official visit to the forum. And the World Festival of Youth and students, 2017, will be held in October in Sochi. More than 20000 young people from 150 countries around the world aged between 18 and 35 years will be participating. This festival is designed to increase the interest in Russia and show its best aspects.

After the official part, the guests were invited to the dinner, where they continued to communicate with each other in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
